A study has found that the Ibrox club paid over £1.4million to injured stars last season as Scottish Prmeiership clubs ranked
A new study has found that Rangers paid the most money to injured players last season – more than double the amount of Celtic.
Research carried out by Footy Accumulators analysed every Scottish Premiership player that missed matches through injury or illness last season to calculate how much they were paid whilst out of action.
Using each player’s salary (as per Capology and Salary Sport) to determine their daily income and then multiplied by number of days and games missed, the league total comes to a cool £3,561,957 – with the Ibrox side along contributing over £1.4million of that.
Gers shelled out £1,434,160 to sidelined stars – comfortably most in the league..
It’s perhaps not surprising that Celtic are second in the table given their comparatively massive wage bills in relation to the rest of the division.
But the Hoops spent just over half of what their rivals did, their total coming in at £787,123.
Hearts were next in just over £400,000 then Aberdeen at less than half that again.
Dundee United got the most bang for their buck as the Tangerines paid less than £20k in wages while players were injured last term.
Rabbi Matondo’ s injury was the most costly to Rangers. The Welsh winger missed 92 days with a hamstring injury that cost the club £301, 458 in wages.
Ridvan Yilmaz being out 166 days was another costly absence at £283,792 while Danilo’s knee injury came in at £240,767 over 65 days.
