Most parts of Scotland are set for a weekend of wet and windy weather
Scotland is in for a washout on Sunday (July 5) as a huge band of rain sweeps across almost the entire country before the weather finally brightens up next week.
Met Office weather maps show wet weather covering most of Scotland on Sunday, with Moray and Aberdeenshire the only areas expected to escape the worst of the rain.
Places including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Fife, Perth and Kinross, the Highlands, the Scottish Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, Argyll and Bute, Stirling, the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland are all set to see spells of rain.
The Met Office says Sunday will be “cloudier across Northern Ireland and Scotland, with further rain here”, while much of England and Wales enjoys warm sunshine.

The unsettled weather isn’t just bringing rain either. Forecast charts show strong, gusty winds across Scotland, with pressure lines close together, which means it will stay windy throughout Sunday.
Weather experts at Meteored say Inverness is expected to see the heaviest rain, with around 7.9mm forecast on Sunday alone. Glasgow is also set for another wet day, with almost 5mm of rain expected after a soggy Saturday.
The forecaster said: “Look closely at the isobar lines on the pressure maps – they are tightly packed across Scotland. That means strong, gusty winds for Scotland and Northern Ireland on Sunday.”

But there is some good news for anyone fed up with the summer washout. The Met Office says conditions are expected to improve from Wednesday, July 8, as warmer air moves in and sunshine returns.
While the rain is expected to linger into the start of next week, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
The Met Office said: “Further spells of rain across northwestern parts through Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures near average here. Staying sunny elsewhere and turning locally hot in the southeast. Widely dry and warm Wednesday.”
That means much of Scotland should see conditions improve by the middle of the week, with temperatures climbing into the low 20s.
Temperatures could climb to 24C in Dundee, while Edinburgh is forecast to reach 23C. Glasgow and Pitlochry are both expected to enjoy highs of around 22C.
After a wet and windy end to the weekend, the middle of next week looks set to bring a much more summery feel across Scotland.
