Scott Burns is on the case as signing season ramps up into overdrive
A season for the ages is nearing completion, but the thrills are only beginning, as any true signing fanatic knows. Season 2026/27 is already under way for clubs as they eye a seismic summer. And with that in mind, who better to turn to than Scotland’s signing guru, Scott Burns. Take it away, Burnsy…
- St Mirren are interested in Airdrie’s Chris Mochrie. The Buddies had the attacker watched in recent weeks. Mochrie has been offered a new deal by the Diamonds, but is considering his options after their relegation to League One. Interim boss Craig McLeish has been impressed with the former Dundee United youngster. Mochrie has been at the Diamonds for the last two seasons.
- Newport County remain in pole position to re-sign Sven Sprangler from St Johnstone. The midfielder had a successful loan with the Welsh side this season. The 31-year-old impressed as he helped them safeguard their place in League Two. Sprangler’s form has put him on the radar of rivals Barnet and Walsall, although Newport remain the favourites. They would need to agree a deal with St Johnstone over the final year of his McDiarmid Park contract.
- Doncaster Rovers and Carlisle United are both keen on Partick Thistle’s Aidan Fitzpatrick. The 25-year-old is out-of-contract at the end of the month. The winger has been a big player in helping Mark Wilson’s side into the Premiership play-offs. His future could now depend on whether or not the Jags can win promotion. Doncaster and Carlisle will both have him watched in the second leg of their play-off with Dunfermline. Fitzpatrick previously had a spell down south with Norwich City, in between his two spells at Firhill.
- Torquay United want to sign Sean McGinty. The big defender is a free agent after leaving Airdrie. The English National League South side want to land the 32-year-old. McGinty has previous experience south of the border, where he made his name before he move north in 2018.
- Taylor Sutherland is attracting full-time interest from the Championship and League One. He is a free agent after his short-term deal at Montrose expired. The Gable Endies are keen to keep him, but won’t stand in his way if he can get back full-time. The 20-year-old moved from Dunfermline in January to get first-team minutes under his belt.
