Keane is reportedly a leading contender to take over from Martin O’Neill at the end of the season
Robbie Keane insists he “doesn’t care” about speculation linking him to Celtic and clubs in England.
The Irishman has made a successful start to his coaching career and was among the names considered to replace Brendan Rodgers prior to Wilfried Nancy’s disastrous reign at Parkhead last winter. And recent reports have claimed that the 45-year-old is very much still in the frame to succeed interim boss Martin O’Neill at the end of the season.
Keane – who was linked with top job at former club Tottenham earlier this year – guided Maccabi tel Aviv to a league and cup double before taking charge of Budapest club Ferencvaros at the start of last season.
He claimed another league title’s medal last year and could lead Fradi to a successful championship defence, with a single point separating them from NB I. leaders Gyor going into the final round of matches on May 16.
Keane could also get his hands on the Hungarian Cup when Ferencvaros battle Zalaegerszeg on May 9.
The Spurs favourite has also impressed on the European stage, with a 2-1 victory over Rangers helping Ferencvaros reach the play-off round of the Europa League, where they were knocked out by Braga.
The ex goal machine admits his triumphs have set tongues wagging but his adamant that he will continue to block out the noise from elsewhere.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I think speculation means that you must be doing something that is okay.
“But, again, I can’t take my eye off the ball from where I am.
“I think my biggest strength is that I don’t care what happens outside of me. It doesn’t bother me. I don’t care about criticism because I am not worried about people, who don’t know me, criticising me.
“Outside noise never affects me so for me it’s just about what I am doing right now and continuing to do that.
“I think that if you want to be successful, you need to be demanding to go into training and be demanding of the players.
“It’s very hard to say (that I am proud of my managerial achievements) as I want more. I am happy with what I am doing but I still believe there is way more to come and I can’t take my eye off the ball.”
