Police Scotland have revealed an 11-year-old needed medical treatment inside Rugby Park
Rangers are sweating over an SPFL away ticket sanction after an 11-year-old fan suffered a facial injury amid their pyro display at Rugby Park.
Police Scotland have revealed a young supporter needed medical treatment inside Rugby Park after the incident which happened in the wake of the flares being let off before Saturday night’s 3-0 win over Kilmarnock.
The Ibrox side were ruled to have breached the Rule H37 during their Premiership opener against Motherwell with a suspended reduction of 50 away tickets hanging over the Ibrox side.
That now appears set to be triggered by Saturday night’s events.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “During the match at Rugby Park on Saturday, December 6, 2025, an 11-year-old boy was treated for a facial injury by paramedics at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing.”
And the Ibrox side have condemned the incident at Rugby Park and will foot the bill for the 50 docked tickets with a fresh punishment likely coming their way.
A Rangers spokesman said: “We are aware that one of our young supporters was treated by medical staff at Rugby Park on Saturday night, and we were concerned that he required assistance.
“Fortunately, a more serious injury was not sustained, though this incident underlines the very real dangers posed by pyrotechnics.
“We are in contact with his family, and we thank the staff who attended to him. We will continue to offer support in the coming days.
“The club’s position on pyrotechnics is clear. Their continued use is now resulting in sanctions from the football authorities in more than one competition, which inevitably affects the wider support.
“Our priority is keeping supporters safe, and we will continue working with fans to ensure this is the case at every match.”
Rangers were slapped with a £20,000 fine by UEFA for a similar incident against Brugge and the SPFL took a dim view over pyro displays in last season’s League Cup.
