Former Labour politician Brian Wilson will stand for re-election at Celtic’s AGM on Friday but the collective are demanding change
The Celtic Fans Collective have turned the heat up on the club’s under-fire board and warned Brian Wilson his time has expired.
Former Labour politician Wilson will stand for re-election at Celtic‘s AGM on Friday, November 21 but the club’s co-op fan group wants him gone.
The 76-year-old is first in the cross hairs for a fanbase who are seeking seismic change with the looming shareholder’s meeting is primed to be explosive with board and shareholders not on the same page.
The club currently remain without a permanent manager, with Martin O’Neill in interim charge, and palpable anger among the fanbase over a botched transfer window, missing out on the Champions League and Brendan Rodgers’ stunning departure.
‘Sack the Board’ chants and banners have loomed large before and after Rodgers’ abrupt exit – now recriminations are being aimed towards those in charge and a demand not to give the club an extra penny.
Wilson is one of eight board members, which includes principal shareholder Dermot Desmond, non-executive chairman Peter Lawwell, and chief executive Michael Nicholson who are looking to be reappointed by the PLC.
But the Celtic Fans Collective are demanding change and Wilson is first on their list as they demand the old regime is gutted.
The Collective’s statement read: “Brian Wilson was appointed as a non-executive director in June 2005 – just weeks after Martin O’Neill’s first spell ended. Two decades on, his continued presence on the Celtic board has become impossible to justify.
“At a recent AGM, the majority of shareholders in the room voted against his reappointment, forcing a poll. The message is clear – supporters and shareholders want change.
“The Celtic plc board desperately needs fresh perspective, modern thinking and dynamic leadership. Brian Wilson can deliver none of this.
“After 20 years in post, he is no longer independent and no longer capable of providing meaningful challenges to the CEO or CFO. Brian – your time at Celtic has expired.”
