A determination on whether Gers will get any tickets for Parkhead on Sunday May 10 will be made by an independent sub committee
Rangers and Celtic will have to wait on the SPFL‘s determination on whether any away tickets will be made available for next month’s Old Firm showdown.
News emerged on Friday that the Hoops were withholding the 2,200 allocation following shameful scenes at the end of March’s Scottish Cup penalty shoot-out win at Ibrox.
Members of the Union Bears ran on the pitch to confront the away fans in the Brromloan Stand and clashed with stewards and police, while a Celtic staff member was allegedly assaulted.
The Parkhead club requested that their rivals not sell any briefs to the ultras group – a request that was refused by the Light Blues, resulting in all tickets being held back.
Gers have already taken the matter to the SPFL board, of which an independent sub committee will consider their request and decide whether any away tickets must be made available for the vital clash on Sunday May 10.
Record Sport reported on Sunday that a decision was expected by close of play on Monday.
However, it’s now expected to be closer to the end of this week, which could bring it’s own issues.
With the game just over a week away by the time a determination is made, that could make things tricky logistically, especially if the committee finds in Rangers’ favour, with Celtic planning for a game with only home fans inside the stadium.
Rangers claim a need for sporting balance for the potentially decisive game. Both are locked in a three-way title fight with leaders Hearts, who moved three points clear of Celts and four ahead of Rangers by coming from behind to beat Hibs at Easter Road.
The Jambos could all but end Danny Rohl’s hopes of a title triumph by beating his side at Tynecastle Next Monday before they are scheduled to make the trip across Glasgow.
