Scotland’s coastline is unparalleled when it comes to picturesque sandy bays. There are too many beaches worth a visit to name, but some are that extra bit beautiful.
The Daily Record has rounded up six beaches that you can head to over the coming days to cool off by dipping your toes in the water. From East Lothian to the very north of Scotland, we have chosen beauty spots all over the country.

1. Lunan Bay, Montrose
Lunan Bay is an idyllic east-facing beach located along the dramatic Angus coastline. Whether you are interested in birdwatching, surfing, or sunbathing, the bay won’t disappoint.
Overlooking Lunan Bay is the ruined fortified house of Red Castle, most of which dates back to the 15th century. It offers a one-of-a-kind backdrop for a day out at the beach.
2. Strathy Bay, Melvich
Strathy Bay is a remote sandy beach situated along Scotland’s very northern coast. If you are travelling along the scenic North Coast 500 driving route this weekend, it is definitely worth a stop.
The bay is a top location for surfing as it is sheltered from strong winds. However, even if you aren’t planning on riding the waves, there is plenty on offer at Strathy Bay—from its surrounding caves to the scenic hills that look out over the water.
3. Seilebost Beach, Isle of Harris
It isn’t just the Scottish mainland that has beautiful beaches, with many of the country’s most beautiful bays located on its islands. For proof of this point, look no further than Seilebost Beach on the Isle of Harris.
On a sunny day, the colours at Seilebost Beach are simply dazzling. From the vivid turquoise and deep blues of the water to the bright white sand, the beach is a visual feast.
And it’s also just across the bay from the equally majestic Luskentyre, so you can double your money if you’re heading to Harris to take in their fabulous beaches.
4. Singing Sands Beach, Ardnamurchan peninsula
Singing Sands Beach is located near Gortenfern on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. The name of the bay comes from the unique ‘singing’ sound that is said to be made when wind blows over the surface of its sand in the right conditions.
The beach isn’t the easiest to get to in Scotland, and requires a bit of a walk. However, the mesmerising views and peaceful atmosphere are well worth the journey.
5. Yellowcraig Beach, East Lothian
Found near the popular town of North Berwick, Yellowcraig Beach is a gorgeous cove that benefits from incredible views out over towards Fidra Island. Also known as Broad Sands Bay, the beach is especially popular amongst families.
Visitors to Yellowcraig Beach will find an adventure play park, as well as a sprawling network of nature trails. While there are no cafés or restaurants by the beach, it is a wonderful spot for a picnic.
6. Broughty Ferry Beach, Dundee
Broughty Ferry Beach can be reached easily from Dundee, situated just a few miles from its city centre. It is an award-winning beach located at the mouth of the Tay Estuary, offering breathtaking views out across to the North Fife coastline.
The bay is found just to the east of Broughty Ferry Castle, which is a picturesque castle dating back to the 15th century. Broughty Ferry Beach is also great for wildlife watching, with dolphins being a common sight in its waters.
