Around 10,000 sets will remain empty for Europa League clash i De Kuip after Feyenoord fans ignored UEFA warning
Feyenoord are likely to be slapped with a partial stadium closure for their clash with Celtic as part of a UEFA crackdown.
The Dutch giants host the Hoops at the end of November in a crunch Europa League encounter.
However, De Kuip will almost certainly be at less than maximum capacity after Feyenoord fans let off fireworks during the game against Panathinaikos this week.
The pyro was accompanied by a massive banner that read: ‘Welcome to our lunatic asylum.’
The Rotterdam outfit are already on a suspended sentence from UEFA for a similar offence against Bundesliga champs Bayern Munich earlier this year.
They were warned that a repeat within the next two years would result in their entire Gerard Meijer tribune being closed for one match.
The stand is where their most passionate fans gather and would reduce the 51,117 capacity by around 10,000 seats.
Club chiefs have already resigned themselves to UEFA carrying out the punishment and it seems certain Celtic won’t have quite the usual De Kuip intimidating atmosphere for their visit to Rotterdam now.
A Hoops legends side recently played at De Kuip in a charity match that saw former skipper Scott Brown sent off for his complaints over a penalty award to their Dutch counterparts, which was missed by Dirk Kuyt.
