The Swede saw her side lose 2-1 to Glasgow City at the weekend to leave them fourth in the SWPL table and revealed her frustration
Celtic Women’s team manager Elena Sadiku has echoed men’s counterpart Brendan Rodgers in calling for more investment from the under-fire Parkhead board.
The Swede spoke just hours after Rodgers’ analogy that he had been handed the keys to a Honda Civic and couldn’t expect it to perform like a Ferrari.
It was yet another not-so-subtle message to the Hoops hierarchy after a summer of messages directed towards them over a failure to adequately replace key attacking players.
Rodgers was speaking after his side lost to Dundee at Dens Park for the first time in almost 40 years, going down 2-0 to Steven Pressley’s Dark Blues.
After that defeat on Tayside, Sadiku herself spoke to the media following her own side’s loss as they were beaten 2-1 by Glasgow City. The defeat leaves them fourth in the SWPL table and six points off leaders City.
Sadiku told PLZ Soccer: “I feel right now that we are in a situation where teams are investing strongly and you can see how tight it is every season.
“Teams are getting better and better and we need to push in the same direction as well. It is not about having a fear factor but the fact that other teams are investing really well.”
Celtic Women have also lost key players such as Caitlin Hayes, Jacynta Galabadaarachchi and Shen Mengyu from the side that won the Scottish Cup under Sadiku’s predecessor Fran Alonso.
Sadiku won the title two seasons ago to qualify for the Champions League group stage for the first time in their history but have failed to build on that.
