The former Radio Clyde presenter told a story of an occasion where she interviewed the football legend
Scottish sports presenter Shebahn Aherne issued an apology on social media after sharing a story of an encounter with David Beckham.
The Celtic-daft radio show host – a regular on the talkSPORT breakfast show with Rangers legend Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil among other shows on the station – posted a joke about an occasion where she interviewed the Manchester United and England legend.
But just hours later the Glaswegian, whose twin sister is a footballer with Crystal Palace and the Republic of Ireland, was forced to apologise after a backlash on X.
Aherne told her Beckham story after hitting the headlines due to a family feud following son Brooklyn’s statement attacking the family.
She said: “My own Beckham story. I interviewed him a couple of years ago for talkSPORT drive… he put his hand on my arm and asked me to repeat a question. I sniffed that bit of arm several timers on the train home.”
But someone replied: “Imagine a male reporter saying that about an ex female sports star. I wonder how that would go.”
Aherne replied: “You’re so right. I’m sorry I’ve offended you.” And she later posted: “Apologies for the offence caused with this.
“It was a wee joke. Not here to offend anyone or objectify men. Deepest, sincerest apologies.”
