Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden was said to be disappointed that her Ryanair flights did not contain one item she wanted, according to close pal Alan Carr
Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden opened up about being left sorely disappointed by her Ryanair flight – although best pal Alan Carr couldn’t help but mock her for it.
Comedian Alan gave his colleague a gentle ribbing after saying she was not pleased when the low-cost carrier did not have any ice for her to add to her glasses of rosé whenever they flew with them.
Amanda and Alan jetted off to Italy with Ryanair on a few occasions when they filmed their BBC TV show Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job, and she was said to enjoy the odd drink on board their flights.
On one occasion, Alan claimed she was hoping if Ryanair would provide her with ice for her rosé – whether or not she requested Ryanair staff directly was not made clear. Nonetheless, the comedian broke the bad news to her and even made fun of her unrealistic expectations.
Speaking on GK Barry’s Saving Grace podcast last year, Alan shared: “When we did the first series, we flew with Ryanair and Amanda every time asking ‘Can I have ice with my rosé?’
“I said, ‘Love, there is no…’ Every time, ‘No, unless they go and scrape it off the wings, love. There’s not going to be any ice on this Ryanair flight’. She thinks it’s [upmarket restaurant chain] The Ivy with wings! I’m like ‘Love, you’re lucky!'”
While Amanda chose rosé, Alan revealed his tipple of choice: an Aperol spritz. But he also revealed how he stopped going to the Greek island of Mykonos because the drinks had become too expensive – a far cry from “the good old days” of cheap booze.
“I stopped going to Mykonos,” he said. “I went there in the good old days when it was about £10 a bottle. Now it’s £85, £90… I don’t even look at currency anymore. I just see how much the rosé is to see if they’re having a good economy or a bad economy.”
It was not the first time that Amanda’s drinking has made headlines. Back in May, she quipped that her husband, record producer Chris Hughes, “judges” her drinking habits during a discussion about her friendship with Alan.
Ironically, she made the revelation on Alan’s podcast Life’s A Beach, in which she was jokingly asked: “To be honest, is he jealous of me?”
“No. He loves you as much as me,” she replied. “I think he’s jealous because I give you way more. I’m nicer to you.”
Alan then said: “We’re always on the phone, though, aren’t we? And having a little gossip and everything.” Amanda then dropped her tongue–in-cheek joke: “You don’t judge my drinking habits. My husband does. Anyway…”
Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job followed the dynamic duo as they renovated a property in Italy, making a lot of madcap mayhem together along the way. The 2023 series was such a hit that they ended up making a second series, Amanda & Alan’s Spanish Job, which came out earlier this year.
Now the pair are busy making their third series together, Amanda & Alan’s Greek Job, set in Corfu. No release date has yet been given, but Amanda was overjoyed when she broke the news about it in April.
She said: “If I said our big fat Greek renovation, I’m sure that will give you a clue! We’re so excited to be spending another summer together bashing down walls in one of our favourite places ever! Over 18 million of you tuned in, so thank you so much for all the love and support.”
The news was in stark contrast to the crushing blow Amanda received recently, when Netflix decided to axe her show Cheat: Unfinished Business after just one season.
Despite this setback, the 54-year-old put on a brave face when she hosted a lavish Mexican-themed bank holiday party for her family and countless celeb friends. Among the guests were actress Tamzin Outhwaite, former TOWIE star Sam Faiers, her Britain’s Got Talent colleague Bruno Tonioli, and ex-MasterChef judge John Torode with his wife Lisa Faulkner.
