The north east has been gripped by blizzard conditions amid severe weather warnings
Aberdeen face potential travel chaos for their Premiership fixture against Rangers in Glasgow on Tuesday night.
The Dons – who sacked Scottish Cup-winning manager Jimmy Thelin on Sunday night – are due to face the Light Blues at Ibrox in a rearranged league game.
It’s the first of a double header between the two sides who are also set to clash at Pittodrie on Sunday.
Tuesday’s game was initially meant to take place in November but was postponed due to Rangers taking on rivals Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final.
However, it could be in a bit of doubt if the current weather conditions in the north east are anything to go by with much of the Granite City blanketed in snow.
It comes amid severe snow and ice warnings for the north east with hundreds of schools shut in Aberdeen and travel severely disrupted but to treacherous driving conditions.
Two years ago Rangers had a home league game against Ross County postponed when the Staggies were unable to make it to Glasgow due to travel chaos on the A9 as a result of bad weather. The Ibrox pitch was deemed playable but the Highlanders couldn’t make it.
This morning drifting snow and ice have left road, rail and air travel impossible in Aberdeen and the Met Office warned that up to another 10cm of snow could fall in the north east.
A separate yellow weather warning for snow and ice is in place for most of the country until the end of Monday.
If the game goes ahead Danny Rohl’s Rangers have the chance to leapfrog rivals Celtic, albeit having played a game more, into second place in the table with a win over the Dons.
Former Rangers midfielder Peter Leven has been placed in interim charge of Aberdeen and is assisted by Craig Hinchliffe and Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel, who is also leading the hunt for Thelin’s permanent successor.
