Officers made two arrests as part of an ongoing investigation in Newport
Two arrests have been made following a series of alleged break-ins in Newport.
Police investigating burglaries in the Malpas area of the city sent armed police to addresses on Graig Park Circle and Russell Drive where they arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of aggravated burglary and criminal damage. The man was also arrested on suspicion of affray, violent disorder, assault, possession of a bladed article and harassment. Never miss a Newport story by subscribing to our newsletter here
Both the man, aged 35, and the woman, aged 27, have been released on a conditional police bail.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: “Officers arrested a 35-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman from Newport on suspicion of aggravated burglary and criminal damage following reports of break ins at two addresses – one in Oliphant Circle and one in Russell Drive – on Monday 2 June.
“The 35-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of affray, violence disorder, assault, possession of a bladed article and harassment.
“Both were released on conditional bail as our enquiries continue.”
The definition of an aggravated burglary is a burglary where at the time the perpetrator has with them “any firearm or imitation firearm, any weapon of offence, or any explosive.”
