Do you always struggle to be understood on the phone, with people complaining that your line is picking up too much background noise and interference?
It turns out that there’s a quick fix to this on iPhones, with a setting that will make your mic much sharper on calls and video.
Most Apple products have the hidden feature that instantly improves the quality of your audio, it’s called Voice Isolation.
It allows your device to more thoroughly process the audio that your mic is picking up, which will help remove any background noise in calls like traffic or public chatter.
A Twitter user called ‘can duruk’ said recently that they “had no clue that a) Voice Isolation was a feature available on the new iPhones / Airpods and b) it worked so well.
“It’s incredible on the other end — you hear nothing but the person you are talking to. Surprised it’s not automatically turned on!”
If you’re running anything after iOS 15 or macOS Monterey, you’ll be able to use this smart feature, although it’s not the easiest to find.
First of all you have to be in call to find the setting, you can swipe or click to the control centre in the upper-right corner then you have to tap on the button that says “Mic Mode.”
Your device will usually be set to Standard, but Voice Isolation is one of the two other options.
There is also a Wide Spectrum option but that actually picks up more background noise.
