The disclosure of an international online gambling promotion network in Batam highlights abuse digital assets in cybercrime. Police arrested five suspects and confiscated cash, gold and crypto assets suspected of originating from this illegal activity.
Police Dismantle International Judol Operation
Quoted from the detikSumut report published on Thursday (25/06/2026), the Riau Islands Police Criminal Investigation Unit succeeded in uncovering an international online gambling promotion network operating in Batam City.
This case was revealed after the police followed up on a report regarding suspicious activity at a house in the Citraland Housing area, Batam City, which then led to further investigation.
Following up on the report, the Sub-Directorate III Jatanras team, Ditreskrimum Polda Riau Islands immediately carried out an investigation. As a result, the police arrested five suspects in the judol network with the initials ML, DC, RL, VW and AL, all of whom are Indonesian citizens.
“From the results of the investigation, five suspects with the initials ML, DC, RL, VW and AL were finally arrested. They are all Indonesian citizens,” said Director of Crime and Criminal Investigation of the Riau Islands Regional Police, Commissioner Ronni Bonic.

Furthermore, Ronni explained that each suspect had a different role in carrying out online gambling promotional operations targeting Brazilian society. ML serves as an operational coordinator who recruits, trains and supervises operators.
Meanwhile, the other four suspects were tasked with managing judol promotions through hundreds of Telegram groups, supervising digital advertising, verifying crypto transactions, and taking care of administration and payment for promotional services.
Paid Using Crypto, Police Confiscate Billions of Rupiah in Assets
From the results of the investigation, the police found that the five suspects were working under the control of a man with the initials AD who was thought to be abroad. According to investigators, AD often moves from country to country and is thought to have been in Cambodia, Thailand and China.
Until now, the authorities are still hunting for the figure suspected of being the main controller online gambling network internationally, which has been designated as a wanted list (DPO).
In carrying out their actions, the perpetrators made use of various things platforms digital and hundreds of Telegram groups to promote online gambling sites and applications. Promotional payments are made using USDT cryptocurrency which is verified via the Tronscan application.
During the raid, the police confiscated various pieces of evidence, starting from five laptops, two iPads, nine cell phones, two smartwatchbanking accounts, crypto assets, IDR 1.3 billion in cash, gold bars, gold jewelry, up to 8,103 USDT.
“We have succeeded in securing a number of assets which are suspected to have come from online gambling promotional activities and currently we are still conducting in-depth investigations to trace the flow of funds and the wider network,” said Ronni.
Police Continue to Search Larger Judol Network
Even though the suspect has been arrested, the investigation has not stopped. The Riau Islands Regional Police are still developing this case to investigate the possibility of other perpetrators or a wider network behind the online gambling promotion operations.
Head of Public Relations of the Riau Islands Regional Police, Commissioner Miss Pricillia Ohei, emphasized that disclosing this case was part of the police’s commitment to eradicating online gambling which now utilizes digital technology and cross-border networks.
“The Riau Islands Regional Police will continue to take action against all forms of online gambling and investigate the networks involved. We invite the public not to get involved in gambling activities and immediately report if they find similar practices,” said Nona.

For their actions, the suspects were charged with Article 426 of the Criminal Code and Article 27 Paragraph (2) of the ITE Law. The police are also still investigating the flow of funds and assets suspected to be related to the online gambling network.
