Fuel prices have skyrocketed due to the Iran conflict but one Welsh petrol station is offering the UK’s cheapest petrol at just 126.9p per litre
The conflict in Iran has caused fuel prices to surge to heights not witnessed since 2022 and the onset of conflict in Ukraine. Although Iran and the USA have reached agreement on a conditional two week ceasefire, there’s no guarantee that petrol and diesel prices will rapidly return to their pre-conflict levels.
Given this situation, Britons nationwide will be seeking the most affordable locations to refuel their vehicles, as even a few pence per litre can result in substantial savings on a complete tank.
Fortunately, several weeks prior to the conflict’s commencement, the Labour government introduced a new scheme called Fuel Finder, a resource created to assist people in locating the cheapest fuel available.
While numerous forecourts across the UK are displaying prices at or significantly exceeding 150p per litre, one outlet in Wales is, remarkably, considerably lower.
The forecourt, the Old Pump Filling Station near Saundersfoot, Wales, is selling petrol at just 126.9p per litre and diesel at 138.9p per litre, reports the Mirror.
This is marginally ahead of Stourton Service Station in Leeds, which is retailing petrol at 127.9p per litre and diesel at 137.9p per litre, and Sutton’s Garage south west of Preston, offering petrol at 129.9p per litre and diesel at 138.9p per litre.
These rates sit significantly beneath the UK’s present average fuel costs. According to the RAC‘s Fuel Watch, the typical price for a litre of unleaded petrol at a non-motorway service area in the UK stands at around 157.02p and 204.26p for a litre of diesel.
While drivers fortunate enough to live near the UK’s most affordable petrol stations will find some financial respite, others will be closely monitoring developments following the announcement of a conditional ceasefire between Iran and the United States.

Iran War latest
In a post on Truth Social declaring the ceasefire, Donald Trump stated: “Subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.”
The ceasefire announcement came just hours after Trump had cautioned on the same platform that “a whole civilization will die tonight”.
While oil prices have fallen in response to the ceasefire, British motorists face a considerable wait before any savings reach their budgets, with automotive experts suggesting various measures to reduce fuel expenditure in the meantime.
According to automotive specialists Vertu, British drivers could save as much as £40 simply by adopting a smoother, more measured driving style, as reported by the Express.
In a statement, they noted: “In congested traffic, many drivers accelerate towards the car ahead and brake sharply when it slows. This cycle is one of the biggest causes of fuel waste in heavy conditions.
“According to government ecodriving guidance, aggressive acceleration and braking can increase fuel consumption by 10–40% in stop-start driving.”
