The 18-year-old rising Serbian midfielder is expected to leave current club Cukaricki in the next 10 days and the Premiership champions are keen
In-demand Andrej Bacanin has added fuel to reported interest in Celtic after the rising star made a beeline for the Premiership champions on social media.
The 18-year-old rising Serbian midfielder is expected to leave current club Cukaricki in the next 10 days with the club’s sporting director Vladimir Matijašević revealing both Brendan Rodgers’ side and Rangers had phoned about Bacanin.
But it appears Bacanin only has eyes for Celtic as he started following the Premiership champions on Instagram after Cukaricki had received a call from Glasgow’s east end.
Matijašević – speaking to the Serbian media – said: “There is a lot of interest in our young players, and the current focus is on the transfer of Andrej Bačanin. He attracted the attention of numerous clubs with his performances for our team last season, as well as for the Serbian national team at his age.
“We had calls from Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers, Ajax, Udinese, and some other teams are interested… It is possible that other options will emerge, and I expect the transfer to be completed in the next 10 days. I expect this to be another big exit transfer for Čukarički, which would cover our club’s budget.”
And Celtic’s interest in Bacanin comes with the versatile star ranking similarly to Scottish starlet Lennon Miller in a host of key categories – with DataMB ranking both inside the top six midfielders in their age range when it comes to key passes in the final third.
Rodgers has been a long-time admirer of the Motherwell standout, however, it appears Miller has his heart set on a move abroad.
And that’s where Bacanin comes in as he is ranked similarly to Miller and Olympiacos prodigy Christos Mouzakitis
