Reform UK has won the Runcorn and Helsby by-election in a blow to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour Party.
Sarah Pochin won the contest for Nigel Farage’s party by just six votes after a recount.
The special election was caused by the resignation of ex Labour MP Mike Amesbury who was convicted for assaulting a constituent.
Nigel Farage’s anti-immigration party had been tipped to win the seat and Prime Minister Keir Starmer did not campaign in the constituency.
Labour won three mayoral elections south of the border.
