A hotel in Scotland’s ‘seafood capital’ is currently available to book for better than half price. Previous guests have described the accommodation as “fabulous” and “fantastic”.
The Ranald Hotel is situated in the coastal town of Oban in Argyll and Bute. Oban, which is renowned for its seafood, was previously named as the Daily Record’s Town of the Week.
At the moment, an overnight stay at the hotel can be booked for as little as £69 through voucher website Wowcher. With the standard cost of a one-night stay being £196.60, this equates to a discount of 65 per cent.

The Ranald Hotel is situated just a short walk from both Oban’s seafront and its train station. According to Wowcher, it features “comfortable rooms” and a lounge bar.
The rooms at the hotel include king-size beds, Wi-Fi access, and tea and coffee-making facilities. Among the other amenities are a flatscreen television and an en-suite with a power shower.
Also included with the Wowcher deal is a full continental breakfast in the morning. Breakfast at the hotel is served between 7am and 9.30am during the week, and 7.30am and 10am during the weekend.
In terms of things to do around Oban, top attractions include the historic Oban Distillery and McCaig’s Tower and Battery Hill. The latter offers beautiful views out over Oban and the surrounding area.
Top restaurants around town include Ee-Usk, Cuan Mor, and The Waterfront Fishouse Restaurant. All are known for their various fresh seafood and fish dishes.
The Ranald Hotel has earned very positive feedback from previous visitors. At the moment, the hotel has an average rating of four out of five on Tripadvisor based on 1,120 reviews.
One recent guest shared: “The location of this hotel could not be better! Very centrally located to downtown Oban, yet very quiet. Our room backed onto a rocky cliff, so no one was behind us and it was very restful. The rooms are comfortable.”
However, they also stated: “The drawbacks are that the Internet is very poor (maybe a function of the room location) and the breakfast offerings are good but limited. Also, there is no elevator, which was not an issue for us.”
A less positive two-star review reads: “Spent 15 days in Scotland, least favorite place. Limited parking, poor Wi-Fi, extremely small room/shower (low cost end), staff seemed dis-interested in helping with issues, better options are likely available. Good location but that’s about it.”
On the other hand, another five-star review states: “Fabulous hotel in a fantastic location. Room spacious and very clean. Staff great—friendly and professional.
“I would definitely book again and already planning our next adventure to the seafood capital of Scotland. Everything is within short walking distance.”
If The Ranald Hotel does not appeal, there are plenty of other accommodation options around Oban. These include the four-star Oban Bay Hotel and the Perle Oban Hotel & Spa.
