People have been left baffled after watch clip of forgotten kitchen area covered in limescale and mould, as they rush to clean their own homes. Luckily, it’s easier to do than you may think
While the list of cleaning tasks that need your time and attention in a home often appear to be never-ending, certain jobs can be ignored or forgotten about for far longer than they ought to be.
This proved true for one man, who featured in a video shared on Facebook, as he discovered he’d neglected to clean one frequently-used section of the kitchen, meaning he’d been consuming considerably more than he might have imagined. The footage also prompted numerous viewers to tackle their own kitchens, after recognising they too were guilty of overlooking this often-forgotten area in kitchens and bathrooms.
So what’s the item in question? It’s the underneath of a tap. In the clip, the chap can be observed filling a thermos cup with water from the tap, when he suddenly decided to examine the underside of the tap.
“POV you randomly remember someone told you to look at the underside of the faucet you’ve been drinking out of for years,” the caption on the footage stated.
While pouring water into a cup, the man proceeded to tilt the handheld tap slightly to peer beneath it, and he was left retching when he spotted the limescale build-up on it.
Rotating the camera so audiences could observe, the tap was coated in white and grey limescale and residue, which undoubtedly makes contact with the water emerging from the tap before it enters your drinking glass or kettle.
While not everyone appeared bothered about the grimy kitchen spot, with some claiming it helped ‘flavour the water’, others were left horrified by their own kitchen taps. Fortunately, cleaning the underside of your tap is easier than actually remembering to do it. In a TikTok video, one woman demonstrated her approach for cleaning taps, including the often-neglected underside.
Displaying her own tap, which had accumulated black mould, Nicky revealed just how grimy it had become, before explaining that you require only two items to restore its sparkle.
The first thing needed is a limescale remover, with Nicky choosing a bottle of Harpic Power Plus, describing it as ‘really good’. The second thing required is a disposable plastic bag.
Nicky proceeded to pour some of the limescale remover liquid into the plastic bag before securing this round the tap, with the tap itself positioned inside the bag with the cleaning solution.
“You want to make sure that the tap head is fully emerged in all the chemicals,” Nicky explained. “And then, I’m just gonna leave that for a little while.”
Several hours later, Nicky came back to remove the plastic bag from the tap. After wiping away the remaining cleaning liquid, the tap immediately appeared sparkling clean once more, with no black mould or limescale remaining.
