Travellers heading on holiday this summer have been warned to be cautious when packing.
Summer is almost upon us. Meaning many people’s thoughts will be turning to their annual vacation in the sunshine. The summer is the busiest times for airlines and this can often cause chaos for travellers.
To be prepared for the busy season, Ryanair is warning passengers to take care of their luggage to prevent any mishaps before your holiday has even begun. One situation that could get your holiday off to a bad start is lost luggage.
To avoid this one happening, the budget airline suggests passengers think carefully about their choice of luggage colour. Many people prefer to have a subtle, black or neutral case, but this might not be the best option.
Suitcases with no real identifying markings can lead to confusion upon pickup as it may look very similar to other passengers.
Many of these cases look next to identical and weigh a similar amount, it’s all too easy to pick up what you assume to be your own suitcase, only to find out the bad news once you get to the hotel, reports the Irish Mirror.
With thousands of passengers flying in and out of UK daily with Ryanair, the airline has stressed the importance of standing out on the carousel. If you have a dark-coloured, generic suitcase, the chance of mistakenly grabbing the wrong one increases. This confusion can lead to delays, added stress and a frustrating search for your own luggage.
To avoid this, Ryanair recommends using brightly coloured or distinctive luggage to make it easier to spot on the carousel. The airline suggests choosing something bold, such as neon colours or vibrant patterns, to make sure your suitcase stands out from the crowd.
If you can’t part with a classic colour like black or grey, Ryanair suggests adding a colourful luggage tag or ribbon to the handle to prevent any confusion.
A spokesperson said: “Make it easier to spot your checked-in luggage on the carousel, especially if your luggage is black, navy or grey. Add a colourful luggage tag or ribbon to the handle so that there’s no confusion on arrival.”
As well as luggage colour, Ryanair also encourages travellers to take precautions with their important travel documents.
To avoid the risk of losing passports, ID cards or other critical documents, Ryanair advises you to make copies and email them to yourself. It’s also a good idea to take photos of these documents and store them on your phone for offline access while you’re abroad.
Ryanair have very strict baggage rules. Their fares include one small personal bag that can be brought on board, such as a handbag or laptop bag. However, this bag can only measure up to 40 x 20 x 25cm and must fit under the seat in front of you.
If you want to travel light, a little bit of organisation goes a long way, according to the airline.
Packing sensibly can really help you make the most of your small bag.
And Ryanair warned passengers not to waste unused space.
A spokesperson said: “Roll your clothes instead of folding. They’ll wrinkle less and you’ll have much more room in your luggage to fit in any extras you pick up while you’re away.
