The Tartan Army talisman has missed the last three games for the Italian champions and could be sidelined again this weekend
Antonio Conte admits he can’t put a timeline on Scott McTominay‘s return to action for Napoli.
The Scotland hero has been out of action since the beginning of February with a muscle injury, after he limped off after finding the net in the win over Genoa. Italian outlet Il Mattino report the 29-year-old has missed training once again this week.
It is stated that the “discomfort persists” for the midfielder ahead of the clash with Verona this weekend. It is noted that Conte has put “no pressure” on McTominay to fast track a return amid a pile up of injury woes for the Serie A champions.
It is expected to be difficult for the Scotland star to play this weekend and it is claimed the signs are not “encouraging at all”. Boss Conte has conceded he can’t put a timeline on a return to action for Scotland’s key man.
He told DAZN: “I haven’t seen McTominay on the pitch with us since Genoa-Napoli. He hasn’t trained.
“He has an inflamed tendon and it’s unclear when he’ll be able to return. You should only talk to the doctors.”
The prolonged absence will have Scotland boss Steve Clarke and the Tartan Army on red alert with the World Cup just around the corner.
The Ballon d’Or nominee has become the talisman for the nation and will be crucial for any chance of success in North America.
Speaking last week, McTominay offered an update on his fitness: “I have a tendon problem that needs to be managed, it’s not easy. I’m giving it my all to be there.
“As a player, it’s tough to get to the training centre and not be able to train with your teammates. I desperately want to play, but you have to be sure of my condition.”
