‘I took trains and ferry to reach remote Airbnb in Scotland – what I found was amazing’

Tim Lindon travelled by foot, rail, and ferry to a remote Airbnb in the Scottish Highlands, kicking off his journey to the “rugged” peninsula with a 14-hour sleeper train

A vlogger who made the journey to a remote Scottish Airbnb by foot, train and ferry has shared something “truly amazing” about the Highlands. Kicking off his adventure for a YouTube video published last month, Tim Lindon caught the Caledonian Sleeper train from London Euston, travelling overnight for about 14 hours to Fort William in the stunning Scottish Highlands.

Upon arrival, Tim paused for a coffee while he waited for his connection – a scenic line that snakes through dramatic Highland landscapes and crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct, famed for its appearance in the Harry Potter films.

Once he made it to the town of Mallaig, Tim jumped on a ferry and then embarked on an estimated one-hour, 30- to 40-minute hike to his Airbnb on the “rugged” Knoydart peninsula, a remote “wilderness” in the Lochaber district on the West coast.

Tim, who hosts the Walk With Me Tim channel on YouTube, said: “Today, I’m staying in one of the most remote Airbnbs in the UK.

“500 miles, travelling on trains, boats, and walking through some of the most beautiful Scottish Highlands to reach my destination, a remote, rugged peninsula in the West Highlands of Scotland, which is often called Britain’s last true wilderness.”

Set between Loch Nevis and Loch Hourn, the peninsula spreads across about 55,000 acres. It is divided among multiple landowners, with the largest section overseen by the Knoydart Foundation.

Setting off on his long journey, Tim showcased sweeping mountain views and a still body of water lapping at the rocky shore on his left, while a footpath lined with trees led him onward.

Eventually, he arrived at the Airbnb, where he was greeted by the proprietor and a friendly dog. Venturing inside, Tim showed viewers his accommodation, a large, comfortable home with a sizeable living room-dining area.

Later, he gave viewers a glimpse of the scenery. Stepping out of the Airbnb and pointing the camera towards a breathtaking beach with mountains beyond, he said: “Look how beautiful this is.”

He took a stroll across the sand, noting how clear the water was and remarking that he had the “whole beach” to himself. Standing at the water’s edge, Tim looked out at the calm ocean stretching into the Atlantic.

On a bike ride afterwards, Tim continued to show off the impressive scenery before popping into a café, where he ordered a coffee, a Tunnock’s Tea Cake and a Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer — two well-known Scottish treats.

Later, Tim was apparently moved by the views once again, dubbing them “truly amazing”. He said: “Only took about 10 minutes getting up this hill. But again, coming up here, though, you get a view like that.”

Tim added: “Being in the Highlands of Scotland on the west coast, I got very lucky with the weather because it can be quite wet and very windy here. The landscape is truly amazing.”
