The striker looks set to make a move to Roma from Brighton – but the Hoops’ striker search could change that
Evan Ferguson could reportedly face a last-minute decision over a move to Roma if Celtic “renew their interest” in the Brighton misfit.
The 20-year-old has been touted with a Parkhead loan move to kickstart his season after netting just one Premier League goal for the Seagulls last season – and failing to make his mark at West Ham on loan during the second half of the season.
But reports in Italy suggest a season-long loan switch to Serie A is on the cards with Roma set to pay the Ireland international’s full annual salary of around €1.8 million (£1.5million).
However, The Sunday Times now report that Ferguson could “have second thoughts” over a move “should the Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, renew his interest.”
Shin Yamada looks set to become the next new face in the door for Celtic after reports in Japan claimed a £1.5million switch from Kawaski Frontale had received the green light.
It is claimed the 25-year-old will jet into Scotland following his international commitments with Japan at the E-1 Championship.
And while remaining coy over a potential transfer to Glasgow’s east end, the forward has hinted that he would be open to moving to Europe to improve his shot of appearing at the World Cup.
He told Japanese media: “I want to show my difference in terms of goals and in the way I fight. I think the competition will be fierce, and I feel that there is little time if that is for Kawaski or overseas.
“I’m pushing forward a lot in preparation for the World Cup, but I think there will be times when I’m pushed back, so I think I can make a difference by connecting goals to those, so I hope I can do that.”
Napoli‘ striker Giuseppe Ambrosino is also attracting interest from Serie A new boys Cremonese and the Scottish Premiership champions this summer.
The Hoops have been tracking Ambrosino, who found the target for Italy U21s in their European Championship quarter final defeat to Germany.
But after impressing at the tournament, Gazzetta report that the Scudetto winners are now considering giving the 21-year-old a chance in pre-season.
It is said that Antonio Conte is keen to show “trust in the Napoli system” before making a final decision on a departure.
