The Nordsjælland striker has six months remaining on his deal but he is heading to Glasgow and he isn’t the only one
Premiership champions Celtic stand on the brink of securing four new signings as they agreed a fee of £1.7million to land Sweden international Benjamin Nygren.
The Nordsjælland striker has six months remaining on his deal, however, the Danes will cash in now and the Premiership champions are ready to push the deal over the line in the coming days.
But the arrival of Nygren, following on from the official unveiling of Kieran Tierney last week, certainly won’t be the last for Brendan Rodgers’ side this summer.
Fulham B standout Callum Osmand is set to move to Glasgow with the lure of first-team football too good to turn down for the Wales youth international.
Osmand earned acclaim for his head-turning displays with the Cottagers and his move to Celtic has led to a wider debate of the merits surrounding Fulham’s famed finishing school for their most talented young players.
And while Osmand is a player for the here and now there is another deal close with Morton standout Isaac English closing in on Celtic.
The 17-year-old is earmarked to continue his development in the club’s academy and has earned glowing reviews as he gets set to exit Cappielow.
Celtic will also announce the capture of Ross Doohan, with the club’s former academy star coming back to Parkhead to replace Scott Bain as the club’s likely No.3.
Viji Sinisalo is earmarked as Kasper Schmeichel’s successor but 27-year-old Doohan will aim to work his way up the pecking order in the coming years.
Back to Nygren and the view that Celtic have secured a transfer snip. The 23-year-old is regarded as an emerging talent who has rebounded from setbacks to show his true worth with Nordsjælland and the Sweden national team.
Superliga expert David Boysen was effusive in his praise as he sold him as a transfer option to the biggest clubs in Denmark. Speaking to Tipsbladet, he said: “I think Benjamin Nygren (would have) been a dream signing for both Brøndby and FC Copenhagen, and it is close to me also adding FC Midtjylland. He is a class player who can fill many roles.
“There are some players who rise under responsibility and you can see that with Benjamin Nygren, who has become team captain.
“He has previously complained that he has not played enough in FC Nordsjælland, and it has helped him because he has been given a big role. I think he is absolutely fantastic and scores goals in all sorts of different ways, and he has also scored in his national team debut.”
Meanwhile, Michel-Ange Balikwisha swapped the cryptic tweets for a scene of serenity as he posed a photo of himself chilling on a boat just as it was revealed Celtic remain locked in talks with Royal Antwerp to discuss a potential transfer to Scotland.
Balikwisha – along with Sarpsborg standout Sondre Ørjasæter – have been the two left-wing names in the frame with Jota’s horror injury and Daizen Maeda’s move to central striker accelerating the need for another winger.
