The wing back will remain at Easter Road until the summer of 2027 after agreeing to extend his stay in Leith
Chris Cadden admits the emotional bond he has with Hibs made it an easy decision to sign a new two-year deal.
The wing-back put pen to paper on fresh terms yesterday afternoon to end uncertainty over his future. Cadden, who joined Hibs under Jack Ross in 2021 from MLS side Columbus Crew, has become a key member of the team and favourite among the fans.
And as Hibs look to strengthen their grip on third place at Kilmarnock today the 28-year-old former Motherwell man admits he is loving life on and off the pitch in Edinburgh.
Cadden said: “Why would you want to leave? I feel the club’s in a great place.
“I love it here. It’s a club that’s special to me – it’s really got to me and it’s a great club as well. So when the club came with the contract, it was a no-brainer for me. I just thought I’d get it done.
“When you come in here, it’s hard not to get an attachment to it. It’s a special club and it really gets to you in terms of the fan base, the people that are here, the players and other people outside of that as well.
“It’s a really special club and something that you’re really, really proud to play for.
“You realise that when you are here, the size of the club and what it means to people as well and to put on the jersey, it’s a really proud moment for me. I’ll do that for a good few more years as well.
“I’m obviously settled in Edinburgh, bought a house here and it is a great place to live. I love being here, I love my life in Edinburgh and I love playing for Hibs. So as I said, why would I want to change it?”
Cadden’s new deal means he will also get the chance to play alongside twin brother Nicky for longer after his sibling only joined last summer, with Cadden adding: ”I couldn’t leave him, could I?”
Boss David Gray is delighted Cadden has prolonged his stay in Leith after hailing his influence in the squad. He said: “Every single day in the training ground Chris tries his absolute hardest.
“He’s brilliant for the group and a brilliant character You can’t have enough of them in your dressing room.
“He fully understands what it means to play for the club and the expectations of playing for the club. Having players like that in your dressing room, it drives the standards every day.”
Gray was also delighted to see Nectar Triantis earn his first Australia call up yesterday alongside teammates Lewis Miller and Martin Boyle. But he knows international recognition has probably made it even more difficult to keep the on loan Sunderland midfielder next season.
Gray added: “He’s still contracted to Sunderland so we’ll have to address that one as and when. Clearly he’s doing really well at the moment and my job is to keep trying to make him better.
“If we can make him better every day, and he’s still contributing on the pitch every day and making Hibs better at the same time, then everybody wins.
“There will be conversations at the end of the season with a number of players, and he’ll be one. Clearly he’s contracted to Sunderland, and we’ll just see what the situation is with him.”
