Dundee United are set to open pre-contract talks with St Johnstone keeper Zander Clark.
Tannadice chiefs have informed Saints they intend to start negotiations with the Scotland squad member, who is out of contract in the summer.
United are looking at their options with No.1 Benjamin Siegrist yet to pen a contract extension as his deal runs out.
An offer remains on the table for Siegrist but the club wants to cover all eventualities.
Clark, who won a cup double with St Johnstone last year, is also attracting interest from England but United are ready to make their pitch.
The 29-year-old held pre-contract talks with Aberdeen when Stephen Glass was in charge but new Pittodrie boss Jim Goodwin is now going down a different route.

United are also close to contract extensions with defender Lewis Neilson and midfielder Ian Harkes.
But it promises to be a busy summer at Tannadice with boss Tam Courts looking to bring in a raft of new players.
United sold the likes of Jeando Fuchs and Louis Appere at the end of the January window but opted to keep their powder dry for the new season.
Courts said: “When I came in last year, it almost felt like we had to build a relationship with the players, to coach them, get a team on the pitch, there were players looking to move on.
“This year it is nice to be able to feel like we can talk about recruitment because ultimately we are going to need five, six or upwards of that in the summer.
“There are a number of players out of contract, a couple in January that we decided not to fully replace because we didn’t really have the targets identified. It’s going to be a really busy summer for us.”
“It might be that we are looking for a goalkeeper as well. We’ll need reinforcements in wide areas, the striker position and there are a couple of players out of contract in midfield.”
