Ben wants to highlight the problem of huge potholes as the council has not taken action
A giant pothole was turned into a massive bowl of beans on toast to highlight the problem. Campaigner Ben Thornbury tucked into the traditional English meal to slam the increasingly traditional English problem. He used two slices of toast and 30 tins of baked beans, then added cheese on top.
“I guess you could say this has bean a success,” said Ben. “Thank God I get discount from the shop as I would have able to feed my whole family with that amount of beans.”
Ben carried out the stunt in Michael Pyms Road, in his home town of Malmesbury, near Swindon, Wilts. He has set up a Government petition demanding the Government do more to fill them in.
“I decided to do something a little out of the ordinary to draw attention to an issue that affects us all,” said Ben, 20. “The terrible state of our roads. I placed baked beans into a pothole as a creative and eye-catching way to raise awareness.
And promote the launch of a new Government petition calling for urgent road repairs and real action to be taken.
“It didn’t take long for people passing by to notice. Many stopped to show their support, offering kind words, giving me a thumbs-up, and saying what a great idea it was.”
He added about the stunt he did last Friday (10 Oct): “It was encouraging to see so many members of the community agree that something needs to be done. This light-hearted gesture had a serious message behind it.
“It’s time for our local and national authorities to take responsibility and fix the roads properly once and for all. Local Tony Rudall joked: “Bean and done it again.”
Bob Newnham added: “Nice one Ben.”
Kate Almond said: “Yuck.”
In August, Ben turned potholes into St George’s Crosses. He has previously turned some into a pitch-and-putt course.
