Harvey started working as a scout under Jim Jefferies in the 90s before taking up a role in the kitroom
Tributes are being paid to former Hearts scout and kitman John Harvey, who has passed away.
A well-known face around Tynecastle, Harvey, whose dad John Snr managed the Gorgie club between 1966 and 1970, started as an opposition scout under Scottish Cup-winning manager Jim Jefferies in the 1990s.
Known as ‘Swerve,’ he then took on a role in the kit room.
Hearts confirmed the news in a statement that read: “Heart of Midlothian is saddened to learn of the recent passing of John Harvey.
“John, the son of former player and manager John Harvey, was a popular figure at Tynecastle Park, providing opposition scouting for Jim Jefferies in the 90s before taking on a role in the kitroom.
“Our thoughts are with John’s family and friends at this time.”
Former Hearts TV commentator Mark Donaldson paid tribute on social media, posting: “This is so sad. Used to love spending time with ‘Swerve’ at Riccarton and Tynecastle.
“One of the game’s really good guys. Rest easy, pal.”
Guardian sportswriter Ewan Murray added: “Really sorry to hear this. The ‘Swerve’ was a brilliant guy, immersed in Hearts and a clued up/old school scout.”
