Right-wing activist Laura Loomer took credit for telling Donald Trump to remove personnel but the president downplayed her role when speaking to reporters.
President Donald Trump has dismissed several officials from the White House National Security Council (NSC), just a day after far-right activist Laura Loomer reportedly raised concerns about staff loyalty during a direct conversation with him.
Sources say Loomer urged Trump to remove personnel she claimed were not fully committed to his “Make America Great Again” agenda, reports the Mirror.
Although some NSC staff have since been let go , Trump downplayed Loomer’s role in the decision. Speaking to reporters, he said: “We’re always letting go of people—people we don’t like, people we don’t think can do the job, or people who may have loyalties to someone else.”
Trump did not specify which individuals were dismissed. The NSC has faced scrutiny in recent weeks due to a scandal involving the encrypted messaging app Signal, which revealed sensitive details about U.S. war plans. While the leak reportedly left Trump enraged, he stood by National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, who accepted “full responsibility” for the incident.
Loomer appeared to take credit for the firings, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “You know how you know the NSC officials I reported to President Trump are disloyal people who have played a role in sabotaging Donald Trump?” She added that their defenders on CNN and MSNBC further proved her point.
The Pentagon’s acting inspector general has launched a review into Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s use of Signal to communicate about operations in Yemen. The review will also assess whether other officials used the app inappropriately.
Trump expressed irritation when questioned about the review, telling a reporter: “You’re bringing that up again? Don’t bring that up again. Your editor’s probably… that’s such a wasted story.”
Despite growing pressure on Waltz, 51, following the Signal leak, it is believed he remains in his role. He recently joined Trump in Florida for a dinner event ahead of the LIV Golf tournament in Miami. Trump was later seen golfing, just hours after his announcement of new tariffs—including a 10% tariff on the United Kingdom—which triggered market turmoil and raised fears of a potential recession.
Loomer, a controversial figure known for promoting 9/11 conspiracy theories, was a vocal supporter of Trump during his 2024 campaign. She has recently intensified her criticism of members of his national security team, claiming several are untrustworthy.
